Sotheby’s auction creates a new global record for highest price of any blue diamond as well as set a record for price-per-carat for any diamond; $3.3 million per carat. A presale estimated $10 to $15 million and ended up at a whopping total amount of $32,645,000 after intense bidding from prospective buyers. The gem eventually went to a Hong Kong private collector’s inventory. Hong Kong collectors are constantly active in the world jewelry market.

Topaz,

November’s primary birthstone, has one of the most confusing histories. The name is thought to have come from an island, Topazos, in the Red Sea, where both Topaz and Citrine were found. Since the two gems were alike in color they were often mixed up.

It’s known for its alleged healing properties. Topaz is reputed to increase understanding, strengthen breathing, prevent colds, enhance creativity, bring relaxation, control angry passions, restore energy, and aid in tissue regeneration.
